The Redroom Returns!

Yes, the Redroom returns after a long hiatus! This is the Mommy Redroom: a locally written variety show exploring all things pregnancy and babies. Thursday August 5, Friday August 6 and Saturday August 7 the doors will open at 8:30 for life drawing and the show will begin at 9 p.m.
$10 includes a live model, art supplies, food, drink and show.

UPDATE! Story from The Advocate
Winner of the Obie Award, The Baltimore Waltz is a giddy, fleet fantasy based on the love and adventures of a brother and sister, one of whom has a fatal disease. In the opening scene, the brother is wearing pajamas, but it is his schoolteacher sister who’s diagnosed with a deadly virus that sends the two of them spinning off to Europe to find romance and a cure before the final crashing scenes where reality sets in.
Performance dates are June 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. and Sunday June 20th at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for seniors and $20 for adults. This show contains adult subject matter and is not suitable for children.
The play is directed by Wendy Walraven and the cast includes Mollie O. Remillard as Anna, Michael Trainor as Carl and Jack Sleigh as The Third Man. Set Design by Julianna Haubrich and Lighting Design by Julie Seitel.

PIRATES!
Friday April 23 at 11 a.m. Main Street Stage and Nutshell Playhouse present Pirates! Written and Directed by Don Jordan.
A swashbuckling adventure featuring bold buccaneers, a mysterious map with a riddle, cursed treasure, a visit to an island that you can’t see, a pirate ghost, and a magical journey to the bottom of the sea. This sea-faring tale features mime, music, masks, and delightful puppets created by Clothespin Puppets.
The performances feature Berkshire County actors Wendy Walraven, Alexia Trainor and Matthew Coviello. Together they bring you a family performance brimming with excitement and theatrical innovation.
Tickets are available at the door: $5 for children and $7 for adults.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the Cultural Council of Northern Berkshire, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Reserve Tickets Now For Main Street Stage’s 2nd Annual Short Play Festival!
Main Street Stage’s Second Annual Short Play Festival will be held Friday March 5, Saturday March 6, Friday March 12 and Saturday March 13 a 8 p.m. and will feature 5 new, original short plays that range from the absurd to the dramatic. After receiving over 400 submissions this year from around the country the play reading committee chose five plays to be in the festival.
“We Appear to Have Company” by Greg Freier, Directed by Sarah Rae Brown
An older English couple suddenly happen to find a mysterious clown reading Dostoyevsky on the other side of their living room. It is up to them to determine who he is, how he got there, and when exactly he is going to leave.
“Restraining Orders” by Ruben Carbajal, Directed by Andrew Bigelow
Alex, a hard-working stalker, is offended to learn that Angela hasn’t noticed his obvious advances for the past seven months. As Alex is about to learn, though, Angela still manages to have a couple of secrets up her sleeve.
“Something Like Loneliness” by Ryan Dowler, Directed by Sarah Rae Brown
In a world where the most intimate of moments can be kept and sealed in Tupperware containers, Dan and Mia, two neighbors, discuss what to trade with one another in an attempt to perk up their lonely lives.
“The Shoe” by Ralph Tropf, Directed by Alexia Trainor
In this film-noir version of a classic fairy tale, an experienced private detective must seek out and find a runaway woman for the Prince of Wall Street—and see if the shoe fits.
“Drip Torch” by Trey Tatum, Directed by Jeremy Kerr
Patrick and Sullivan have been friends since childhood, but now Patrick is about to move halfway across the country. In an attempt to leave his past behind him, though, Sullivan reminds Patrick that maybe letting go is not as easy as it seems.

We want YOU for the Berkshire 24-Hour Theatre Project!
Calling all Berkshire County theatre people: The Berkshire 24 Hour Theatre project may not be happening until the 23rd and 24th of April, but the time to start thinking about it is now. Interested in working with people from across the county on a project that will only take 12 hours of your time? Interested in giving acting, writing or directing a try? The Berkshire 24 Hour Theatre project will begin at 7:00 PM on April 23rd as writers gather in Stone Soup at Topia in downtown Adams for a night of brainstorming and writing. At 7:00 the next morning, the writers will hand off their scripts to the pre-established acting and directing teams who will rehearse in spaces in downtown Adams. Everyone will rejoin at 7PM that evening for the big show.

Auditions!
Main Street Stage presents its Second Annual Short Play Festival. Audition for a role in one of several original, never-before-produced one-acts! These short plays were handpicked by company members from over 400 nationwide submissions as part of MSS’s annual playwriting contest. Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 30th and Sunday, January 31st from 12 to 4 PM at Main Street Stage, 57 Main Street, North Adams, MA. Performance dates will be the first two weekends of March. All actors are encouraged to prepare one contemporary monologue of one minute in length, no memorization required. Written by Joan Ackermann and directed by Kathy O’Mara, the play consists of 11 vignettes and examines the emotional landscape we roam as we travel in our cars. Control, navigation, love and escape, are some of the themes explored.
Some of the scenes explored are a protective father who guides his son through the neighborhood on Halloween; an actor on his way to perform Hamlet is in a rear-end collision and confrontation with a Czech cab driver; a devastated businessman strikes up a friendship with a homeless woman who sleeps in his car.
The cast includes company members Michael Trainor, Wendy Walraven, Lisa Remillard, April Castanguay, Jack Sleigh, Sarah Rae Brown, Jeremy Kerr, Cassidy Matthew, Eric K. Auld, Julia Les, Todd Hamilton and newcomers Andrew Bigelow, Breana Gladu and Abbigail Kelly.

Main Street Stage announces today their fall production Marcus is Walking, written by Joan Ackermann. The play will preview Thursday November 12th and open Friday November 13th. It will run Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until November 21.

The Redroom was rated at 5 out of 5 by the Berkshire Eagle’s “Region After Dark.” It is an artist’s playground where genre lines don’t matter. One audience member called it something you’d see in someone’s basement in Greenwich Village during the 1960’s. Full of readings, original skits and plays, improvisational rap, dance, local musicians and anything else we can get our hands on.
